Carlisle Musical Society is made up of a group of enthusiastic and dedicated people who are keen to take part in lively and professionally produced shows. We are essentially a team of people who work very hard behind the scenes and on stage. The committee meets regularly to ensure that we achieve our aims. Our rehearsals on Friday evenings are a mixture of fun and hard work. There is a good spirit among members and many friendships are formed. This has led to several social occasions which can be enjoyed by members, friends and any other guests.
Why not join us? You could pop down to a rehearsal at WI House (next to Alternative) on a Friday evening. Just come and listen if you like, or join in. You will be most welcome!
Just contact us via the website.
"Hello, I am Steve Viney and I am the Carlisle Musical Society's Musical Director.
The Society has a long tradition and has been successful for many years. Obviously time changes, and with it so do musical styles and tastes. Since I took over, to give our previous MD a well earned rest, we have performed in Carlisle at the Sands Centre, the Green Room, the Tithe Barn, the Lanes Shopping Centre and The Buccleuch Centre in Langholm.
I am trying to ensure that everyone has the opportunity, if they wish, to take solos or sing in small groups. Some people prefer to be part of the chorus rather than be in the limelight. There is something for everyone!
What about our musical style? Our recent Disney show contained a mixture of ballads, choral music and some quite rocky items! ‘Pop Along to Bethlehem’ which was performed at St Cuthberts Church last December was simply the Nativity story in a more modern vein.
This spring we will be doing a show of very well known songs – details to be finalised.
The future looks bright! Come and join us!"
